You can use any resources on the net that you like. Specifically, you might find Ben-Ari's Understanding Programming Languages useful, which I have trimmed down to just Chapter 7. This chapter is about subprograms, which might also be called functions, or methods, or procedures, depending on your programming language. You can grab it from our password-protected area. The full text is available online, and is linked in from the Resources section of the site.
